30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE γ-ray emission from PWNe interacting with molecular clouds

چکیده
We consider a situation in which a pulsar (and its nebula) is formed inside or close to a high density regions of a molecular cloud. We apply a recent model for the gamma radiation of pulsar wind nebulae (PWN), which includes not only radiation processes due to injected leptons but also processes due to injection of relativistic hadrons, in order to calculate the expected γ-ray emission from such interacting PWNe. The example calculations have been performed for two objects of this type from which directions TeV γ-ray sources have been recently observed (IC443 and W41). We show that the γ-ray emission below a few TeV can be produced by leptons accelerated in the past in the vicinity of the pulsars. γ-rays with energies above ∼ 10 TeV can be produced by hadrons interacting with the matter inside the supernova remnant and surrounding dense clouds. In contrary to the low energy TeV emission, this high energy TeV emission should be correlated with the location of dense clouds able to capture hadrons due to their strong magnetic fields.

5 6 We present a model of cosmic ray (CR) injection into the Galactic space based on recent γ-ray observations of supernova remnants (SNRs) and pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi) and atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (ACTs). We consider a situation in which a pulsar is formed inside or close to a high density region of a molecular cloud. Right after birth, the pulsar was very active and accelerated hadrons and leptons to very high energies. Hadrons diffuse through the supernova remnant (SNR) and some of them are trapped in the nearby cloud interacting with the matter. We extend a recent time-dependent model for the...
متن کاملCorrelation of Supernova Remnant Masers and Gamma-ray Sources
Supernova remnants interacting with molecular clouds are potentially exciting systems in which to detect evidence of cosmic ray acceleration. Prominent γ-ray emission is produced via the decay of neutral pions when cosmic rays encounter the nearby dense clouds. In many of the supernova remnants coincident with γ-ray sources, the presence of OH(1720 MHz) masers is used to identify interaction wi...
متن کاملGamma-rays from star-forming regions: from SNOBs to dark accelerators
Observational γ-ray astronomy was born some forty years ago, when small detectors were flown in satellites, following a decade of theoretical predictions of its potential to discover the origin of cosmic rays via the π-decay mechanism. The seventies were a golden era for γ-ray and cosmic-ray astrophysics, with the (re)discovery of the “diffuse shock acceleration” theory for cosmic rays, and the...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Hadronic Gamma Rays from Supernova Remnants
A gas cloud near a supernova remnant (SNR) provides a target for pp-collisions leading to subsequent γ-ray emission through π-decay. The assumption of a power-law ambient spectrum of accelerated particles with index near –2 is usually built into models predicting the spectra of very-high energy (VHE) γ-ray emission from SNRs. However, if the gas cloud is located at some distance from the SNR sh...
